WordQ has made reading, writing, and communication easier and more accessible for millions of students around the world.

Our Solutions for Schools

Our solutions for schools are based around WordQ® technology, first released in 2001 and constantly improved in the following years.

WordQ is a simple-to-use writing software tool that helps students create better quality writing with greater independence and confidence. It provides ongoing compensatory support for students with learning differences (e.g., dyslexia) or physical disabilities, and in general, any student who faces barriers to writing for any reason. As well, it can complement reading and writing instruction for students who are learning English or French as a second language.

WordQ supports both English and French

WordQ software is available on four platforms, with slightly different features for each: Windows, macOS, iPadOS and Chrome (including Chromebooks).

All versions offer state-of the-art word prediction combined with text-to-speech to help with word selection, as well as a proofreading mode where the student can navigate through their document, having portions read aloud to check for errors and overall flow. WordQ watches the student’s keystrokes and presents a list of ‘predicted’ words and short phrases that are consistent with those keystrokes. The student can hear these words spoken aloud and select them by keystroke or mouse/trackpad. A creative spelling facility attempts to work around errors in spelling to still present the desired word.

On Windows and macOS, WordQ’s main interface is a floating window that hovers over and interacts with any application that involves writing such as a word processor or an email program.

The iPad and Chrome versions offer the same assistance but within a self-contained document editor. The Windows and Chrome versions include speech recognition, which can be used as an alternative for quick text entry and is also useful for getting over the initial creative hump on a new writing project by getting thoughts on the screen quickly.

The Windows, macOS and Chrome versions also include an accessible PDF viewer/editor for students to work on educational materials such as tests and worksheets. Students can fill out forms and text fields; and add annotations such as sticky notes to take notes or answer questions; all with WordQ’s word prediction and TTS assistance.

We call this technology, intelligent assistance, or IA, rather than AI. In general, the approach is to encourage students, to be active participants in reading and writing, not passive spectators. WordQ does not write for a student. Rather, students get assistance to be independent in their work and get their ideas down easily.

WordQ Desktop and iWordQ are completely secure and don’t require an internet connection, except to download and activate.

Schools can license WordQ Desktop and Chrome for individual students, in volumes, school-wide and district-wide.

iWordQ for iPads must be purchased from the Apple App Store.
